If you happen to be in the vicinity of Constitution Hill in Joburg, pop in for the MTV Base Africa Day celebrations taking place from today, 25 May 2022, until 28 May 2022.
The four-day series of events and activations under the theme “United Colours of Africa” are brought to you by the Gauteng Department of Sports, Arts and Culture, LoCrate Market, MTV Base, Bet and the City of Johannesburg.
Africa Day is celebrated on 25 May annually to celebrate the founding of the Organisation of African Unity (now known as the African Union) in 1963 to fight colonialism in Africa and apartheid in South Africa.
The festival is about proudly celebrating the African culture by leveraging major entertainment touch points across entertainment. This year’s focus will be on reinvigorating commercial opportunities and exchange among South African SMMEs, as well as boosting transactional trade between different operators.
It speaks to a broad audience, with differing touch points spanning from African food market, business talks, music festival, and fashion & craft district presented by both established and young aspiring creatives across Africa.
Africa Day promotes diversity and inclusion for anyone who claims to be part of Africa’s future, particularly the LGBTQI+ community. The event will also provide a platform for local businesses to the market and sell their products to a wider audience and positioning Johannesburg as a vibrant tourist destination.
The event is family friendly and tickets cost R150 and all ticket holders must produce their vaccination card for entry into the event and follow the Covid-19 protocols.
