Khanya College stages Jozi Book Fair monthly courses and performances

The City of Johannesburg’s Arts, Culture and Heritage Directorate, in collaboration with Khanya College, recently hosted the Khanya College Jozi Book Fair 2022 monthly courses and performances at the Workers’ Museum.
The event was jam-packed with workshops and performances in poetry, theatre, visual arts, and chess.
“Khanya College Jozi Book Fair aims to bring together the youth, particularly post-school youth, to deepen a youth movement because two out of every three youth in South Africa are unemployed and there aren’t enough youth centres in communities.
“So, this project is bringing together the youth to create a space where they can build their identities and be organised through different art forms such as music, theatre and poetry,” said programme director, Nosipho Mdletshe.
“We want to help the youth before they get involved in any gang or drug activities, but also those who are already in gangs,” Mdletshe added.
The Khanya College Jozi Book Fair 2022 monthly courses and performances are not limited to Newtown activities. The youth can also participate in study groups that increase their political awareness and promote critical thinking and citizenship.

The various workshops are part of a course that began in April 2022 and will continue monthly at the museum until November 2022.
Khanya College is a Joburg-based non-profit organisation and was founded in 1986 with the primary goal of assisting the working-class and poor communities to respond to the challenges posed by the forces of economic and political globalisation.
