MTC campaigns against vandalism of the City’s telecoms infrastructure

The City of Johannesburg’s Metropolitan Trading Company (MTC) is launching a campaign against vandalism and has called on its stakeholders take a stand against all criminal acts and vandalism.

Residents and other stakeholders have been urged to put a stop to vandalism by reporting it on 0800 002 587.

The Metropolitan Trading Company (MTC) is one of the custodians of infrastructure within the city of Joburg. Its focus is purely on the infrastructure that helps the operational capacity of telecommunications network. The entity was established to Bridge the digital divide for an inclusive and connected Johannesburg.

The purpose of this campaign is to educate stakeholders, citizens and customers about the importance of protecting MTC infrastructure. This is following the recent upsurge of infrastructure vandalism that cost the City a lot of money whilst frustrating the MTC clients on the lack of service delivery.

“Vandalism of network infrastructure is hurting the economy even further; crime is an unfortunate reality of life. Our best form of defence is to take every measure to protect ourselves, our families, and our communities.

“By doing this, we have full control over circumstances, and by working together, we’re taking action against criminals who pose a threat to our community. People have a strong belief that the onus of ensuring that this infrastructure is taken care of, only lies with their local government and feel that this is not their problem,” says Celani Mathenjwa, MTC Management Support Manager.

The campaign will start from this week and all stakeholders are urged to follow MTC’s social media page on Facebook and LinkedIn at Metropolitan Trading Company, and City of Joburg to assist fight against vandalism.
