Municipal Debt Payment Arrangement

How to enter in a payment arrangement

A payment arrangement is a structured plan that allows debtors or customers to pay off outstanding debt over an agreed period of time through scheduled instalments. If you’ve received a bill or notice indicating a missed payment on your account, you have the following options:

1

You can pay the full outstanding amount immediately.

2

Alternatively, you can enter in a payment arrangement plan with the City.

Customers who suddenly find themselves unable to pay their monthly municipal bills are encouraged to sign an Acknowledgement of Debt (AOD) and agree on a payment arrangement plan.

The customer acknowledges the debt owed and agrees to pay a determined amount they can afford. The City arranges for the outstanding amounts to be paid in instalments. This is to prevent customers from falling into a debt trap by allowing manageable payments.

Payment arrangements can be made at the City’s walk-in Customer Service Centres or by contacting the Credit Control Department via email at creditcontrol@joburg.org.za
