Thousands of cyclists are getting ready for an exhilarating ride through the streets of Johannesburg with the upcoming Virgin Active 947 Ride Joburg, scheduled for Sunday, 19 November. The annual cycling showpiece promises a thrilling 97-km route, starting and finishing at the iconic FNB Stadium in Soweto. Race organisers say cyclists of all levels are gearing up for the challenge, with the race beginning at the crack of dawn at 5am. The route, which winds through the bustling streets of Joburg, offers a unique opportunity to explore the City’s landmarks without the usual traffic.
If you haven’t signed up yet, there’s still time. Entries are open until Saturday, 18 November, with a fee of R665.00 for participants aged 12 and older.
Fritz Pienaar, the Race Director, promises an even more challenging and exciting trail this year, featuring twists, bends, uphills, and downhills.
Pienaar says the Virgin Active 947 Ride Joburg is not just a race but a celebration of unity and a love for cycling.

Exciting prizes await professional cyclists, with R200,000 up for grabs for the first-place male and female winners, R75,000 for second place, and R15,000 for third place.

The event, known for its full road closures in Joburg, also ensures a pedestrian-friendly route for spectators.
Secure parking will be available, and attendees are urged to drive cautiously.
