A City of Johannesburg official and well-known long distance runner, Vincent Hlasa Seng, flew the municipality’s flag high when he clinched fourth place in the 18th JP Morgan Corporate Challenge at the Wanderers Club on Thursday night, 30 March 2023. The JP Morgan Corporate Challenge is one of the world’s largest corporate running event in which company teams complete a 5.6km race at night. A total of 400 companies registered their employees. Team Joburg registered 36 members.
The key beneficiary of this year’s proceeding is the Laureus Sport for Good, a charitable organisation, which donates funds to various sport organisations in the world including South Africa.
Seng improved last year’s effort when he came in fifth. “I am excited that I did well. I am glad the city is supporting us.
Daily around 4am, I am on the road to improve my running time. I do 15km to18km twice a week to improve on my speed. Weekends, I do long distances,” said Seng.
The Member of the Mayoral Committee for Community Development in the City of Johannesburg, Cllr Lubabalo Magwentshu, was among the runners.
After finishing his 5.6km race, he said it was tough but he enjoyed it.
“This event promotes healthy lifestyle and social cohesion. As you can see, people from different races are here,” said Cllr Magwentshu.
