Emndeni Library’s Women’s Day Event Focuses on Health and Wellbeing

Emndeni Library hosted a Women’s Day celebration dedicated to promoting health and raising awareness of substance abuse. The event targeted adult women from various crèches in Emndeni Wards 52 and 130, as well as those at the Abrahma Kriel Drop-off Centre and Home-based Care service.

The celebration, on 7 August 2024, aimed to empower women with knowledge about crucial health issues and the dangers of substance misuse.

Lungile Sikhakhane, a social worker at Zola Clinic, highlighted the devastating impact of substance abuse on individuals and families. She provided information on different types of drugs and signposted attendees to local support services.

Faniswa Mdywe, a health specialist from Slovoville Clinic, emphasised the importance of early detection and prevention for women’s health conditions such as breast cancer, cervical cancer, HIV, and contraception.

Healthcare professionals from Nkuphila Clinic offered on-site screenings for high blood pressure and diabetes, providing attendees with valuable health insights.

Palesa Ngwenya, a local resident, praised the library for organising such an important event and called for similar initiatives to be held regularly.

The event was a great success, fostering a sense of community and providing essential information to the women of Emndeni and surrounding areas. Emndeni Library remains committed to supporting local women’s health and empowerment through ongoing education and outreach programmes.
