Chiume, a household name in South African entertainment, sadly passed away on 6 August after a battle with illness. Her iconic roles in productions like “Black Panther”, “Zone 14”, “Rhythm City”, and “Gomora” cemented her status as a true South African acting legend.

Soweto Theatre has lauded Chiume’s immense contribution to the arts in South Africa, describing her as a towering figure who inspired generations of artists. A spokesperson for the theatre said: “Connie Chiume’s talent and dedication were unmatched. Her star will shine brightly as a symbol of her enduring legacy.”

Joburg Theatre shared a heartfelt message on Instagram, mourning the passing of the “iconic queen” and acknowledging her immense impact on the industry.

The star-naming ceremony promises to be a poignant celebration of Chiume’s extraordinary life and career.
