The Joburg Market Opportunity Centre in City Deep successfully hosted a one-day digital entrepreneurship training, leaving a lasting impact on over 20 Small, Medium, and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) on Thursday, 15 August 2024.
The event, held in collaboration with Mo-Afrika, was filled with optimism as local entrepreneurs gathered to equip themselves with essential digital skills to grow their businesses. SMMEs from various sectors, including agriculture, fashion and beauty, and education, attended with a shared goal of expanding their businesses.
The training focused on helping SMMEs transition from traditional business practices to modern digital approaches for business expansion and enhanced customer engagement. Training facilitator, Oswell Ngubane, emphasised the importance of digital transformation for small businesses, stating that SMMEs are a crucial part of the South African economy and must be digitally equipped.
“The future of business is online, and those who adapt will be the ones who succeed,” Ngubane remarked.
Throughout the day, participants were introduced to digital platforms such as TikTok and Facebook, learning how to leverage them for business growth. Attendees expressed their gratitude for the training and the Joburg Market Opportunity Centre’s ongoing support for small businesses.
Zanele Mthobeni, a small business owner in construction, farming, and horticulture, shared her appreciation, saying the training offered her a deeper understanding of her target audience and digital advertising strategies.
“After this session, I realised how much I’ve been missing out by not being online. The digital tools we were shown today will help me reach new customers and grow my business,” Mthobeni said.
At the end of the training, attendees who passed received a soft copy of the National Electronic Media Institute of South Africa (NEMISA) Microsoft Digital Literacy Certificate, showcasing their readiness to take their businesses to the next level.
