The City of Johannesburg’s Community Development and Sports and Recreation directorate hosted the Totalsports Women’s Race 10km on Sunday, 17 August 2025. The event kicked off at 8am from the well-known Marks Park Sports Club, followed by a 5km fun run.
The annual race brings together women from all backgrounds, races, and countries, united in a charitable run. This year, a record 12,000 participants took part, marking National Women’s Month with a vibrant display of female empowerment and sporting achievement.
Community Development MMC Cllr Tebogo Nkokou also attended in support of the initiative. “The Totalsports Women’s Race is a highlight of National Women’s Month. As the City of Johannesburg, we are committed to empowering women and creating opportunities that ensure their wellbeing.”
A sea of pink filled Johannesburg’s leafy streets as participants set off on the race. Runners and walkers of all ages enjoyed either the 10km or 5km routes, which showcase the splendour of the City while featuring live entertainment along the way.
Charity remains a key focus of the event. The Totalsports Women’s Race has long supported PinkDrive, a non-profit company dedicated to breast cancer awareness, education, and free screening services across South Africa.
The City of Johannesburg’s Health truck offered vital health services to women in need.
Ethiopia’s Selam Gebre claimed victory in the 10km race, with South Africa’s Karabo More and Karabo Mailula finishing second and third, respectively.
