Randburg Community Engages in Successful Budget Participation Session

Region B hosted a successful Community-Based Planning (CBP) session at Ferndale Recreation Centre in Randburg. The CBP was attended by community members from wards 102 and 98.

At the session, community members were divided into smaller groups based on their ward to discuss the three priority projects submitted to the City’s budget steering committee. They also had the opportunity to address key service delivery concerns within Randburg.

Ward 102 Priority Projects:

  • Taxi rank expansion
  • Conrad Bridge project completion
  • Maintenance of the Ferndale and Braamfontein Spruit.

Ward 98 Priority Projects:

  • Upgrading of stormwater drainage
  • Mobile library
  • Low-cost housing

Wandile Mabaso, a Ward 102 resident, expressed frustration over project delays due to budget constraints. He questioned the effectiveness of the City’s budgeting process, stating: “What’s the point of submitting priority projects to the City if they constantly get rejected?”

Nonhlanhla Masango suggested a more collaborative approach to budgeting. She proposed that each ward be allocated a budget, allowing communities to make decisions on their own priorities.

Following the group discussions, common concerns emerged, including frustration with the City’s budgeting process and a lack of by-law enforcement. These issues were highlighted as areas that require urgent attention from the City.
