Joburg Welcomes Parliamentary Committee for Oversight Visit on Water Infrastructure

The City of Johannesburg, under the leadership of Executive Mayor Cllr Dada Morero, today, 09 October 2025, hosted members of the Portfolio Committee on Water and Sanitation for an oversight visit to assess progress in implementing the Johannesburg Water Turnaround Strategy.

The visit follows the City’s first appearance before Parliament on 19 September 2025, where updates were presented on the measures being taken to strengthen water supply systems and improve service delivery across Johannesburg.

Led by Member of Parliament and Chairperson LJ Basson, the Portfolio Committee is undertaking a series of oversight visits to key national water infrastructure sites. The Committee’s engagement in Johannesburg includes presentations and on-site inspections of strategic projects aimed at enhancing infrastructure resilience, improving water reliability, and reducing non-revenue water.

Among the key projects showcased during the visit are:

  • Crosby Reservoir and new pipeline, currently under construction to improve water reliability in Westbury and Coronationville.
  • The Brixton Reservoir and Tower upgrade, designed to boost storage capacity and system performance.
  • The Water Tanker Depot and filling points, which provide emergency water supply to affected communities.
  • The Zuikerbosch Water Treatment Plant and Vaal River Intervention projects, led by Rand Water, which are integral to securing Johannesburg’s long-term water sustainability.

This engagement reflects the City’s ongoing commitment to transparent governance and collaboration with national and provincial partners to accelerate the delivery of sustainable water and sanitation services.

“We welcome the Committee’s oversight and guidance as we continue implementing our turnaround strategy. This partnership is vital to ensuring that Johannesburg’s water systems are reliable, efficient, and responsive to the needs of our residents,” said Executive Mayor Cllr Dada Morero.
