The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) recently appointed Mpho Maruping as its Operations Manager for Infrastructure Development.
ith over a decade of experience in civil engineering and infrastructure management, Maruping brings both technical expertise and strategic insight to the agency’s mission of improving Johannesburg’s road network and public infrastructure.
In his new role, he oversees the day-to-day functions of the Infrastructure Development Department, ensuring that all projects and upgrades are efficiently delivered through sound contract management and strong stakeholder collaboration.
“I’m honoured to join the JRA at such a crucial time for the city’s infrastructure renewal. My goal is to contribute to a culture of excellence where planning, teamwork, and accountability deliver tangible results for Joburg residents,” says Maruping.
Before joining the JRA, Maruping served as Director of Engineering and Technical Services at the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District Municipality, where he led major infrastructure projects and oversaw capital budgets. His earlier roles as Deputy Director and Unit Manager strengthened his expertise in coordinating multi-disciplinary teams and managing consultants to achieve project goals.
“Infrastructure development is not just about roads and bridges — it’s about connecting communities and enabling growth,” he adds.
A registered civil engineering technologist, Maruping holds a Bachelor of Technology in Civil Engineering from the Central University of Technology, and an Advanced Programme in Municipal Finance Management from Wits Business School.
Originally from Taung in the North West Province, he describes himself as a lifelong learner with a passion for music, golf, and spending time with his family.
