The City is set to host the highly anticipated J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge on Thursday, 13 March, drawing thousands of corporate athletes to The Wanderers Club for the world’s largest corporate running event.
However, residents and commuters are advised to prepare for extensive road closures in the vicinity to facilitate the smooth and safe execution of the event.
Authorities have announced that several key roads around The Wanderers Club in Illovo will be closed from the morning until the event’s conclusion. These measures are essential to ensure the safety of participants and spectators, said Makgafela Thaba, Regional Director for Region E.
“We are proud to welcome the J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge once again, as it not only promotes fitness and camaraderie but also showcases Johannesburg as a premier host city for international events,” Thaba said.
“We urge all participants and residents to plan ahead, as road closures will be strictly enforced to guarantee a seamless experience for all.”
Designated parking areas have been arranged for attendees, including at Wanderers Golf Course, Melrose Arch, Wanderers Rugby Fields, Fairways Primary School, and Kingsmead College. Participants are encouraged to carpool or use ride-hailing services to ease traffic congestion.
Following the race, participants can look forward to a lively post-run celebration. The evening’s entertainment will feature a performance by South African electronic duo Locnville, followed by an energetic set from DJ Luis, ensuring an electrifying atmosphere for runners and spectators alike.
The J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge, which began in New York’s Central Park in 1997 with just 200 entrants, has since grown into a global phenomenon.
Joburg’s edition continues to be a highlight on the corporate calendar, offering companies a chance to encourage teamwork and promote workplace wellness.
With fitness, networking, and community engagement at its core, the event remains a testament to Joburg’s capacity to host large-scale sporting occasions.
