Grade 3 learners at Naturena Primary School celebrated International Mother Language Day through storytelling, learning, and fun on 21 February 2025.
Teachers and librarians from Naturena Library hosted an interactive reading session, exposing learners to storybooks in all 11 official South African languages.
The aim was to help them appreciate the beauty of different languages and cultures. As they listened to stories, they discovered how language connects people, shapes identity, and helps us understand each other better.
One of the learners, Anele Ndala, shared her excitement: “I loved listening to stories in different languages. It made me feel proud of my own language and curious about others!”
The celebration didn’t stop at Naturena Primary! Libraries across the City also took part in International Mother Language Day, bringing communities together through books and storytelling.
A big thank you to the teachers, librarians, and everyone who made this event possible. Through reading and storytelling, we are building a future where all languages are valued and celebrated!
