Rea Vaya Brt to Ferry Fans to Soweto Derby on Saturday

The City of Johannesburg’s Rea Vaya Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) will offer public transport to fans attending the Soweto derby between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday, 1 February 2025, at FNB Stadium. Special event buses will run from Soweto and the Johannesburg CBD to the stadium.

The Rea Vaya FNB Stadium Station will open at 10am. Fans are encouraged to use feeder buses to connect to Trunk (T1) and complimentary (C1) services to the stadium. T1 buses will operate at five-minute intervals from 11am to ensure fans arrive before the 15:30 kick-off.

The T1 service frequency will increase to five minutes from 11am for routes from Thokoza Park (Soweto) and Ellis Park (CBD). T3 buses from Library Gardens East will run at the usual 15-minute intervals. Fans using T3 buses from the CBD or Braamfontein can transfer to T1 or C1 at Orlando Police Station without additional cost.

After the match, all Rea Vaya buses from FNB Stadium will operate at five-minute intervals until the service ends at 19:00. Fans are advised to purchase two single-trip cards at R30 each for a return journey. Single-trip cards are available at all Rea Vaya stations, while smartcard holders will pay based on distance travelled. Alcohol is prohibited on buses.

The Transport Department, in collaboration with JMPD, will ensure fan safety. Supporters are urged to travel early and be seated on time. Regular updates will be shared on the City’s Transport Department social media platforms.
