The Gauteng MEC for Health and Wellness, Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko, together with the Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg, Cllr Kabelo Gwamanda, and the MMC for Health and Social Development, Cllr Ennie Makhafola, officially opened Orchards Clinic on Louis Botha Avenue on 22 May 2024.
Constructed in line with National Health Core Standards and National Health Insurance requirements, Orchards Clinic is part of the Joburg 2040 Growth and Development Strategy. The City of Johannesburg aims to provide primary healthcare facilities in identified areas and produce a high-quality health environment.
“Orchards Clinic brings a broad spectrum of allied health services closer to home. With a clinical psychologist available on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays, a physiotherapist on Tuesdays, and comprehensive social worker services, we demonstrate our dedication to supporting the holistic well-being of our community through both physical and emotional health services,” said MEC Nkomo-Ralehoko.
The clinic is strategically located along the Louis Botha Corridor, where the Rea Vaya Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) infrastructure connects multiple nodes from the Joburg CBD to Orange Grove, Alexandra, and Sandton. This infrastructure promotes economic activities, recreational spaces, and access to health within walkable precincts anchored by the BRT.
“The community of Orchards needs to take ownership of the clinic. They must be custodians of the facility, ensuring it stays in good working condition and continues to deliver world-class service to the community,” said Executive Mayor Cllr Gwamanda.
